La Trinitat

Last Saturday I joined the "Secta" for one of their outings, in this case to La Trinitat, near Sitges.

It was really nice and I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who feels like a day out in harmony with beer and nature.

Here are some of the photos I took. They aren't very good, but you get an idea:

Don't drink and drive (a Barbie car)

Wakes up with Chinese accent after migraine

Ok, so maybe a coma is not necessary: this British woman only needed a migraine headache in order to acquire a foreign accent, Chinese in this case.

Apparently it's called Foreign Accent Syndrome (FAS). :D

Vatican finally forgives the Beatles

44 years later, the Vatican has finally forgiven the Beatles for Lennon's "bigger than Jesus" comment.

Better late than never!

Croatian teenager wakes up from a coma speaking fluent GERMAN

Apparently it's not the first case of people waking up from a coma speaking a foreign language.

Of course, from a student's/teacher's point of view, it's quick and effective way to learn languages.

However, doctors can't really explain how it happens, so the only thing I can do, if you want, is try hitting you on the head with a chair, computer or something hard and heavy, and see if the induced coma produces the desired language.

Any volunteers? Bear in mind that you have your exam in 6 week's time. :P

Do you believe in aliens?

Apparently 20% of the world's population believe that there are aliens living among us.

I was surprised to see that more men believe in aliens than women. I'm not sure how to interpret that information. What do you think?

Make or Do?

Last summer I posted a list of pages that explain the difference between MAKE or DO, so I'll just post the link to that entry:

http://quevienelateacher.blogspot.com/2009/07/more-make-and-do.html

The most simple explanation, plus a list of common expressions (often exceptions), is on this page: http://www.learnenglish.de/grammar/doormake.htm

Verb tenses - basic revision

Here is a webpage which explains the use of different verb tenses and provides practice exercises:

http://www.ego4u.com/en/cram-up/grammar

For those of you who need to revise when/how to use the different tenses.

It has other grammar practice, too: passive voice, conditional sentences, etc.

Certificat Intermedi

Hiya!

I've mentioned this in class many times, but in case you missed it, or weren't there, the official dates for the Certificat Intermedi (=3rd year) are out: 31st of May. It's a Monday.

That's the date for everything EXCEPT the speaking part, which will be done either the week before or the week after.

Sunset Planet Alert

If you're a fan of sky-watching, this Saturday and Sunday (3rd and 4th of April) are the best days to see both Mercury and Venus together in the West at sunset.

More info from Nasa: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2010/31mar_sunsetplanets.htm?list940097

This is how they looked in Japan two days ago.

What's on your "bucket list"?

This Florida woman, arrested for robbing a bank, apparently did it because it was on her "bucket list".

Read about it here: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/03/30/florida-woman-reportedly-robs-bank-citing-bucket-list/

Then listen to her here:

I wonder what will happen to her. I hope she doesn't go to prison.

I'm not a great cinema fan, but after Googling the term, I've found out that "The Bucket List" was a film where two people make a list of things they really want to do before they die, and they call that list the "bucket list".

What's on your bucket list?

I've never really thought of it, but seeing the Northern Lights, somewhere like Alaska or on a Scottish Island, or in the Polar Circle would be high up on my list.
